THE OFCS ANNOUNCES 2002 AWARDS

It’s awards season again and that means it’s time for the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS) to announce the winners of their 2002 Year End Awards. This year, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was chosen as 2002’s best film. “The Two Towers” also picked up awards for Best Director, Best Ensemble Acting, and technical awards for achievements in Editing, Sound and Visual Effects.
Winners of the 2002 OFCS Awards were announced on January 6, 2003. The OFCS is composed of the world’s premier Internet film critics.
Best Picture: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Best Director: Peter Jackson – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Best Actor: Daniel-Day Lewis – Gangs of New York
Best Actress: Julianne Moore – Far from Heaven
Best Supporting Actor: Dennis Quaid – Far from Heaven
Best Supporting Actress: Samantha Morton – Minority Report
Best Ensemble: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Best Original Screenplay: Todd Haynes – Far from Heaven
Best Adapted Screenplay: Charlie Kaufman & Donald Kaufman – Adaptation
Best Foreign Language Film: Y Tu Mama Tambien
Best Cinematography: Edward Lachman – Far from Heaven
Best Original Score: Elmer Bernstein – Far from Heaven
Best Visual Effects: Jim Rygiel – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Best Art Direction: Far from Heaven
Best Costume Design: Sandy Powell – Far from Heaven
Best Editing: D. Michael Horton & Jabez Olssen – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Best Sound: Ethan Van der Ryn & Mike Hopkins – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Best Documentary: Bowling for Columbine
Best Animated Feature: “Spirited Away”
Best Breakthrough Performance: Maggie Gyllenhaal – Secretary
Best Breakthrough Filmmaker: Mark Romanek – One Hour Photo
