How do you review a narrative-free music video? Assembled here is an eerie black and white montage of animated people poisoning each other, people dying, and people being buried.
Under all this is an eerie tune written and sung by Jill Tracy called, naturally, “The Fine Art of Poisoning.” Subtly orchestrated and certainly creepy, it requires no images atop it to induce a requisite spinal shiver.
Combined, though, the animation and song don’t relate any sort of story. This is a mood piece through and through, a collage of poisonings and mansions and silhouettes and thunder and lightning. It invokes feelings of discomfort, worry and dread well. The animation is first rate, though a few images recur one too many times. Rating it strictly on those merits, this gets top marks for being quite effectively unsettling.
