BOOTLEG FILES 028: “El Topo” (1970 avant-garde Mexican Western that launched the midnight movie craze).

LAST SEEN: We cannot confirm the last official screening, but it was probably in the mid-1970s.

AMERICAN HOME VIDEO: None.

REASON FOR DISAPPEARANCE: A long-running dispute between filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky and distributor Allen Klein.

CHANCES OF SEEING A HOME VIDEO/DVD RELEASE: An American release was promised by Klein only after Jodorowsky’s death.

BOOTLEG OPPORTUNITIES: Plentiful, but beware of quality control problems.
