THE BOOTLEG FILES: “ATOLL K”

By Phil Hall | November 12, 2004

BOOTLEG FILES 055: “Atoll K” (1951 French-Italian fiasco which ended the career of Laurel & Hardy).

LAST SEEN: The truncated American version of the film, “Utopia,” is playing online at MovieFlix.com.

AMERICAN HOME VIDEO: Only bootlegged public domain videos of the American version; the original European version was not commercially released in the U.S.

REASON FOR DISAPPEARANCE: The film’s poor reputation and public domain status.

CHANCES OF SEEING A DVD RELEASE: No one will touch this sad little orphaned film.

BOOTLEG OPPORTUNITIES: Plenty of bootleg videos of the American version are available, although the quality is generally mediocre.
