Spike Lee has signed on to direct a biopic about recently departed soul legend James Brown. Brian Grazer, Godfather of Ron Howard Schmaltzy Biopic-ery, will produce.
“Like everybody, I was surprised and saddened that James Brown died,” said Grazer. “Having known him well, and after spending lots of time with him and researching his life, it’s somehow not surprising that he died on Christmas Day. He was the ultimate showman, all the way to the end.”
Dying on Christmas is not ultimate showmanship, Brian. Had James Brown been eaten by Aretha Franklin during halftime at the Super Bowl, well, THAT’S going out like a showman…
