THE AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE GOES DOWN UNDER

The American Cinematheque presents Australian Films as part
of the Rosemount Australian Film and Style Festival, held during Australia Week (January 15 – January 23, 2005). This festival takes place in various venues in Los Angeles, the festival celebrates art, commerce, culture, and history from Australia. The two film nights are co-presented by the Cinematheque.
On Wednesday, January 19th at 7:30 PM is DOWN UNDER WONDERS: A NIGHT OF AUSTRALIAN SHORTS. Various genres from animation to drama, and comedy are showcased in these short films from Australia. Several of the filmmakers will appear in person. Screenings are at the Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the historic 1922 Egyptian (6712 Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Las Palmas) in Hollywood.
On Thursday, January 20th at 7:30 PM is SOMERSAULT (2004, 106 min.), the story of an innocent but self-destructive runaway, Heidi (Abbie Cornish), who lands in New South Wales to create a new life for herself. This stunningly poetic film, from first time director Cat Shortland, won
in all 13 film categories of the 2004 Australian Film Institute Awards. Screening is at the Aero Theatre at 1328 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.
