SXSW 2010 ANNOUNCES FIRST LOOK OF RODRIGUEZ’S “PREDATORS”; REVEALS TBA SLOT AS BABLUANI’S “13”

By Mark Bell | March 3, 2010

The 2010 SXSW Film Festival has announced a special “first look” event for March 12, 2010, for the upcoming film “Predators.” Local Austin filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal will be on-hand to present the advanced look at footage, taking place at the Alamo Ritz Theater in downtown Austin, TX, at 10:15pm (doors open at 9:45pm). There will be a Q&A after the event.

Rodriguez, better known for his own directorial endeavors, is producing this latest chapter in the “Predator” franchise, and had this to say: “My director Nimród Antal and I are excited to bring this first look at ‘Predators’ to Austin’s SXSW Film Festival, an event that’s become vital to the filmmaking scene. Austin is my home and I’m proud that ‘Predators’ was conceived and filmed here.”

From the press release, “[“Predators”] stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey.  With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human ‘predators’ that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien ‘Predators.'”

This first-look event is only open to Badge-holders on a first-come, first served basis, so if you’re interested, line-up early… unless you’re watching the SXSW opening night screening of “Kick A*s,” in which case you should cut out as soon as the credits roll and “Good Luck!”

Additionally, SXSW announced the identity of their SX Fantastic section, Super Secret TBA film. Géla Babluani’s “13,” a remake of Babluani’s very own French film “13 Tzameti,” will screen at midnight at the Alamo South Lamar on March 13, 2010.
