By Film Threat Staff | August 17, 2001

SEE IT THURSDAY, AUGUST 23RD AT 7:30 PM! AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE/ALTERNATIVE SCREEN presents Starwoids — the stranger than fiction details of Star Wars fans (A.K.A. Starwoids) and their six week-line-waiting quest to see Episode I – The Phantom Menace on opening day.
On April 7th, 1999, two lines formed at the Mann’s Village and Chinese theatres in Los Angeles, each building their own rules, laws, and even government while waiting to see the first Star Wars film in over 16 years. Starwoids is more than just simple vignettes of Star Wars fans. Spanning over two years, Starwoids is a firsthand look at the fans, the frenzy and the pursuit to see one of the most anticipated films in cinema history. Winner of Best Documentary at the NoDance Film Festival 2001.
Chris Gore of Filmthreat.com will host a discussion with filmmaker Dennis Przywara following the screening. Also the short film, Jar Jar Binks: The True Hollywood Story (2000, 11 min.) will be screened as well. IFP/West will host a beverage reception for ticket buyers. Arrive early so you won’t have to wait in line!
