SILVERDOCS ANNOUNCES 2005 SLATE

SILVERDOCS 2005 will present over 89 provocative documentary films representing 65 countries selected from more than 1,300 entries. The selections best exhibit personal cinematic vision and celebrate the spirit of independent filmmaking. Highlights include:

-The North American Premiere of MIDNIGHT MOVIES: FROM THE MARGINS TO THE MAINSTREAM, about the 1970s cult film phenomenon and its lasting impact on pop culture and society.

-Music Documentary strand including the World Premiere of MAKE IT FUNKY!, which explores New Orleans Music; the DC Premiere of SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK:RAISE YOUR VOICE, about the DC-based gospel a cappella group of the same name; and a music video showcase curated by Director Penelope Spheeris (WAYNE’S WORLD, DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION).

-The Washington, D.C. premiere of THE ARISTOCRATS, where comics tell their version of the same dirty joke. Preceded by “God Save The Dirty Joke,” a panel moderated by TIME Magazine’s Matt Cooper, exploring the comedic limits of free speech.

-Master Filmmaker Werner Herzog in person to present his mesmerizing new documentary GRIZZLY MAN.

-NORTH KOREA: A DAY IN THE LIFE and OUR BRAND IS CRISIS highlight the Festival’s films about the state of democracy around the world.
