SAN ANTONIO UNDERGROUND FILM FEST WINNERS

The Golden Shower Video Festival (aka the 7th annual San Antonio Underground Film Festival) has announced their winners. The top prize is a smokin’ lowrider bike. The festival takes place at the campus of the Southwest School of Art & Craft (1201 Navarro) on June 8 & 9, 2001. The festival has a light-hearted approach. Sixty-six films will screen on both days along with the winning films. Here’s a line up of the award-winning movies and the fine prizes that they will take home:
GRAND PRIZE WINNER Receives a Lowrider bicycle ^ Somewhere, I Was Born 8min (Screening 7pm Saturday June 9) ^ Dir: Tony Gault (303/789-4114) Englewood, CO ^ A comic study of religion and evolution, the film documents the filmmaker’s brush with mortality after being diagnosed with cancer. This film recently won the coveted Kodak Grand Prize Award in filmmaking.
SECOND PLACE WINNER receives a miniature accordion ^ 2nd) Red Light City 8min (Screening 7pm Saturday June 9) ^ Dir: James Ren (718/854-7332) Brooklyn, NY ^ Tom wants to meet the girl of his dreams, but forgets to bring enough money to pay for her services. After escaping a mugger, Tom unknowingly leaves a clue for the now enraged mugger. That’s just the beginning of a long night in a very unforgiving city for a very unfortunate soul.
THIRD PLACE WINNER receives “Lucha Libre” wrestling mask ^ 3rd) Miss Penelope’s School of Stillness 6:42min (Screening 6pm Friday June 8) ^ Dir: Paul Sullivan (212/808-7241) & Amy Larimer New York, NY ^ Miss Penelope teaches her dance students the beauty of standing perfectly still with a combination of discipline, dedication, and fear of flying pickles. (Paul is a producer for the “Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on the Comedy Central network.)
BEST ANIMATED SHORT ^ Totally Generic Robot! 3min (Screening 6pm Friday June 8) ^ *Dir: Matt Ryan (210/438-5571) San Antonio, TX ^ A suburban family owns a pet robot. And now, robot must learn about love. Matt is currently a high school student at the Northeast school of the Arts in San Antonio.
