Rotten Tomatoes (RottenTomatoes.com), the trusted online source for gauging the critical reaction to movies, has announced the 2005 recipients of the Golden Tomato Awards, the site’s annual awards given to recognize the year’s best-reviewed films.
The best reviewed picture of the year is Warner Independent Pictures and director George Clooney for their McCarthy-era drama, Good Night, And Good Luck, based on a tally of 169 reviews of the country’s top print, broadcast and online film critics, earning it a Golden Tomato for Best Limited Release Film.
“From Killer Tomatoes to Golden Tomatoes, it has been quite a ride.” said George Clooney, director (and star of 1988’s Return of the Killer Tomatoes.)
The Golden Tomato for Best Wide Release Film is awarded to DreamWorks and Aardman Studio’s lovable duo of a cheese-obsessed inventor and his faithful companion, the titular heroes of Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, based on the reviews of 149 critics across the nation.
Other big winners include Universal Pictures’ The 40-Year-Old Virgin for Best Comedy, Warner Independent Pictures’ March of the Penguins for Best Documentary and Sony Pictures Classics’ Kung-Fu Hustle for Best Foreign Film. A complete list of winners follows.
