OUTFEST JUST WANTS TO HAVE FUN

By Film Threat Staff | May 28, 2003

One hundred eighty nine features, documentaries and short films will be shown at OUTFEST 2003, which runs July 10-21 in Los Angeles. This year, OUTFEST is celebrating its 21st birthday as one of the world’s largest gay and lesbian film festivals and the largest and oldest film festival in Southern California. To commemorate this occasion, OUTFEST will celebrate with a joyous, festive 12-day party, rejoicing in the gay and lesbian community’s vision and artistry.
“This year’s theme is fun,” noted Executive Director Stephen Gutwillig. “Think camp. Think drag. Think outrageous. Though there will certainly be films of a serious note, this year, OUTFEST takes a lighter stance, an uplifting feel amidst the horrors taking place worldwide.”
The festivities begin with the Opening Night Gala and screening of the outlandish club kid spectacle “Party Monster,” starring Macauley Culkin, Seth Green, Chloe Sevigny, Dylan McDermott, Natasha Lyonne, Wilson Cruz, Wilmer Valderrama, Diana Scarwid and Marilyn Manson, and will conclude with the World Premiere of “Mambo Italiano,” affectionately regarded as My Big Fat Italian Gay Wedding. In between, there are scores of films, panels, seminars, parties, special events, awards and the infamous Platinum Oasis, now renamed Platinum SnapMeat.
