NOUGAT

By Chris Gore | March 26, 2002

This is bar none, the strangest animated film I have seen this year. In school play form, kids playing the ingredients of a candy bar come out to introduce themselves. Chocolate is boastful. Caramel is cute. And Nougat is just plain goddamned angry. The Asian boy in the Nougat costume attacks his fellow ingredients in a Columbine-like revenge rage that, when you consider the ridiculousness of it, is about the most bizarre animated short ever. This is right up there with the original South Park, Jesus Christ versus Santa Claus short.
If filmmakers Tibor Szakaly and Bill Fiala play their cards right, this should lead to a movie deal and a TV show exploring the secret lives of candy bars everywhere.
