NIGHT OF THE LIVING DORKS

By Eric Campos | July 20, 2005

Wasn’t really expecting this to happen, but what we have here is the “Weird Science” of zombie movies. And that’s a good thing.

While ripping bongloads in their van, three high school dorks wind up wrapped around a tree in a fatal car accident. Good thing the night before they accidentally had the ashes of what was supposed to be a real zombie blown all over them, because they wake up alive as ever in a morgue. Returning home and after a panicked debate, the three friends conclude that they are in fact the living dead, and they couldn’t be more excited about it. Now they have an invincibility and inhuman strength to take on everyone that’s ever picked on them. They can now claim a social status that they’ve always dreamed about. Of course, they’re still walking dead people and little problems like decomposition and an insatiable appetite for human flesh only get worse until they realize that being a zombie really sucks and they make it their mission to find a way to revert back to normal. Well, that’s the plan for two of them anyway.

This German production is an ever highly amusing high school comedy, super-charged with more sex, drugs and even gore. Yes, this is a goofy teen comedy, but filmmaker Matthias Dinter also embraces the zombie genre aspect of his film, providing a healthy does of blood, guts and disturbing imagery. Ever see a guy get his penis stapled back on? It’s pretty tasty. If you’re a fan of classic 80s teen movies AND zombie flicks, you really can’t go wrong with this one, it’s a riot from start to finish and the hilarious cast, especially the three zombies, plays a good part in keeping this riot at full rage.

If you’re looking for a good time, these zombie dorks got it for ya.
