NEVER LIVE ABOVE A PSYCHIC

By Felix Vasquez Jr. | January 22, 2006

Almost in the spirit of Danny Devito’s dark comedies, “Never Live above a Psychic” is an entertaining and simple animated short about a man who—well—lives above a family of psychics. Gentile provides fluid storytelling, and unassuming albeit fun animation that shows this man outwitted, outmatched, and outnumbered by a woman and her two children whom are basically super powered telekinetic psychics. Practicing their powers, they begin to make a horrible ruckus which disturbs our aforementioned main character. After he complains, they decide to torture him and ruin his coffee, turn his cat against him, and turn the hot water up on his shower. He then proceeds to bolt down their furniture and torture them in to thinking their powers are gone, but both enemies reach common ground when ghosts begins haunting them and they fight against a common enemy. Gentile’s animation it aesthetically pleasing and fun, and the story ends on an ironic twist that make the time invested well worth it.
