NASHVILLE SCREENWRITERS CONFERENCE IN MAY

By Film Threat Staff | May 29, 2003

The Nashville entertainment community continues to boom; ever since “Honkytonk Man” was released they’ve been unstoppable. Taking place May 30-June 1st at the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt will be the 5th Annual Nashville Screenwriters Conference.
This event was inspired and created by Karen Murphy, producer of “Spinal Tap”, “Best in Show” and “Waiting for Guffman”; Les Bohem: writer of “Dante’s Peak” and “Daylight”; as well as business manager and Nashville businessman, Gary Haber. Participants in the conference will be able to get firsthand information and advice from film and television business professionals.
“We created the Conference as an opportunity for people that don’t have relationships with the decision-makers in Hollywood to really show what they’ve got. Anyone that’s ever tried to get a screenplay recognized, knows how difficult it is,” says Karen Murphy. “It is our hope that the Screenwriter’s Conference will bridge the gap between untapped talent and Hollywood.”
For the last two years, the Conference has included a “Pitch Room” in which attendees deliver a 10-minute “pitch” to television and movie industry VIPs. Due to the great demand for this and its success, they’ve decided to do it again. Everyone that attends the conference will have an opportunity to “sell” their idea to people who know how to get the job done.
