MUSICALS ROCK THE AERO

The American Cinematheque presents CAN’T STOP THE MUSICALS: MORE MUSICALS FROM THE 1970’s AND ’80’s at the Aero Theatre in Los Angeles, (July 21 – 29, 2005). In the wake of MOULIN ROUGE and CHICAGO, two blockbusters that served to re-ignite audience interest in movie musicals, the American Cinematheque previously presented films at the Egyptian Theatre, from an era not normally thought of as rich territory for filmed musicals: the 1970’s and 1980’s. While some of these musicals came straight from Broadway like CABARET and 1776, others were highly original. Don’t miss GREASE, an irresistible teen-dream musical with a soundtrack of wall-to-wall hits and SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, about a working class youth that is king of the dance floor by night, both starring John Travolta; the rock musical, PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE and Alan Parker’s intense interpretation of Pink Floyd’s classic album THE WALL — all on the big screen where they were meant to be seen!! Screenings are at the Max Palevsky Theatre at the Aero Theatre, located at 1328 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.
