No one “made a big fuss when they were schlepping around NYC fighting monsters created by an evil, demonized Patrick Stewart” because they were still Teenage, they were still Mutant, they were still Ninja, and they were still Turtles. Also because they’ve fought monsters in basically every incarnation, they’ve used NYC as their home city for as far back as I can remember, and Patrick Stewart is kind of awesome no matter what. Plus The Foot and Karai were kicking around this one, which appealed to the folks who were into deeper TMNT continuity. And, speaking of deeper continuity references, Raphael dressing in the Night Watcher getup was reminiscent of alternate outfits he wore in the Image Comics and Archie Comics.

The reason no one threw a fit back in 1990 was that we were all kids. Ask a kid how they feel about the name and plot changes in the new film and they’ll say “I dunno…sounds cool, I guess” and then pick their nose and eat it. Kids are dumb – make some explosions, fart jokes and do a butt-dance to 90s rap and they’ll LOVE it.

The Transformers movies (Star Wars prequels, GI Joe, Battleship, etc) are infinitely more tolerable when you realize that they are essentially made for 10 year old kids. That 30 year old man-children get excited about them is just a byproduct of our dying civilization 🙂

I don’t understand all of the backlash to be honest. Be these turtles mutated, or be they aliens, will they be fighting Krang — an enemy from the beloved property? Are they going to be fighting with weapons and doing martial arts? Hey, sounds like TMNT to me.

If no one made a big fuss when they were schlepping around NYC fighting monsters created by an evil, demonized Patrick Stewart… why is this such a big deal?

It seems to me that people just want another reason to blame Michael Bay for “ruining” their childhoods.

If they’re aliens, it can’t sound like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to you because then it would be Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles (or in this case, they’re dropping the “teenage” too, right). So my thing is, why call it a reboot at all? Why not just make a new, original movie with ninja aliens that has no relation to anything TMNT? It’s not going to ruin my childhood or any of that dramatic nonsense, it just seems silly all around.

This is the best Monkey Man has ever looked.
