MODS AND ROCKERS AT THE EGYPTIAN

By Film Threat Staff | June 14, 2002

Just when you thought it was safe to put away your go-go boots, Day-Glo hip-huggers and Nehru suits, the American Cinematheque returns with The 4th Annual Mods & Rockers Film Festival (June 27th – July 10th, 2002), a 22 film celebration of the music, fashions and popular culture of the shag-a-delic 1960’s. The event is hosted by the American Cinematheque and will screen at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
The festival kicks off with the L.A. Premiere of the new concert film “Blue Wild Angel: Jimi Hendrix Live at the Isle of Wight,” featuring never-before-seen footage of Hendrix’s legendary performance at the 1970 British music festival. Other highlights include cinematic celebrations of the Beatles and the Who on successive nights, including the first major solo movie projects by Beatles John, Paul, George and Ringo, followed by a trio of Who movies (to toast the band’s Hollywood Bowl concert the following night), including their landmark rock opera “Tommy.”
