By Film Threat Staff | July 10, 2002

Beginning July 26th at the Film Forum in New York City will be a series of films honoring the legendary works of Toshiro Mifune (the John Wayne of Japan) and Akira Kurosawa (the sensei of cinema). This actor and director team collaborated on 17 films, including such classics as “Seven Samurai”, “Rashomon”, “High and Low” and “Yojimbo”, all of which will be screened during this series running till September 12th.

For those of you who have always wanted a taste of classic Japanese cinema, this is the time and place for it as even Charlton Heston has said in regard to Mifune, “My God, what a presence! If he could act in English, he would conquer the world.” Chuck knows what’s up.

Other films to be included in the series are “Throne of Blood”, “I Live in Fear”, “Stray Dog”, “Drunken Angel” and “The Bad Sleep Well”, all presented in Japanese with new translations and subtitles.

Visit the Film Forum website for a complete schedule of screenings.
