The Melbourne International Film Festival, the largest and longest-running film festival in the Southern Hemisphere, is now calling for short film entries. MIFF’s International Short Film Competition, now in its 39th year, is also the most prestigious in the region. To be involved in what is shaping up to be a big year, entries must arrive before April 6. ^ In 2000 Melbourne International Film Festival screened over 180 short films – more than either Berlin, London and Sundance festivals, and more than any other Australasian festival. Entries came from over 40 countries across six continents. ^ In 2001, Melbourne International Film Festival will again screen the best short films that the world has to offer; a program of fiction, documentary, experimental and animation shorts that reflects the quality and diversity of work currently being produced around the globe.
Short film entries will compete for, amongst other things, five City of Melbourne Awards worth $13,000 (Australian) in total.
