Author and heroin chic celeb schmoozer JT LeRoy has been outed as a phony. After months of speculation (and in lieu of the outing of James Frey) LeRoy was revealed to be a character created by Laura Albert, a 40 year old female writer from San Francisco. Albert and her partner Geoffrey Knoop had kept the LeRoy ruse going for years and “he” even befriended Gus Van Sant, Madonna, Winona Ryder, Courtney Love and many others.
As LeRoy started making public appearances, he was always accompanied by Albert who did most of the talking. It’s now being rumored that Knoops half sister, Savannah Knoop was playing the public role of LeRoy. LeRoy’s book of short stories titled “The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things” was made into a film directed by Asia Argento.
While this story in and of itself is fascinating, it all bears a striking resemblance to events that happen in the Armistead Maupin book (now a crappy movie) The Night Listener>>>
