IT’S A HORROR WORLD IN APRIL

By Film Threat Staff | April 7, 2005

In April 2005, legendary fantasist Harlan Ellison, actress and author, Amber Benson (“Tara” from the hit television series, Buffy, The Vampire Slayer) and Bubba Ho-Tep author Joe R. Lansdale will be among the guests of honor at the first World Horror Convention (WHC) to be held in New York City.
“This is the fifteenth anniversary of the convention,” said Monica J. O’Rourke, the committee chairperson of WHC2005. “We wanted to mark this occasion by pulling out all the stops and bringing dark fantasy, science fiction and horror enthusiasts to the greatest city in the world.”

The first “world” convention of science fiction fans was held in New York in 1939. Since then, the speculative fiction community has swollen to unprecedented numbers. There are major “World Cons” for all of the speculative fiction genres, including science fiction, fantasy, and horror, but this is the first time since 1967 that one is being organized in Manhattan.

Held at the Park Central Hotel in midtown Manhattan, World Horror descends on New York City, April 7 through 10, 2005. In addition to industry panels, author readings, movie screenings and a mass autograph session, this year’s convention touts the largest roster of celebrity guests of honor in the history of the convention, including:

Harlan Ellison
Joe R. Lansdale
Jack Ketchum
F. Paul Wilson
Allen Koszowski
Amber Benson
Linda Addison
Tim Lebbon
Mick Garris
Tom Piccirilli
Tom Monteleone and Elizabeth Monteleone
Mort Castle
Stanley Wiater

The World Horror Convention, the premiere event for all things darkly imaginative, will be held April 7th-10th, 2005 in New York City at the Park Central Hotel.
