INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2004 NOMINEES

The International Documentary Association (IDA) has announced the nominees in the 20th Annual IDA Distinguished Documentary Achievement Awards competition. The winning nonfiction films and filmmakers will be feted at the IDA Awards Benefit Gala on December 10 at the Directors Guild of America Theatre in Hollywood.

Two winners will be chosen from the 14 documentaries vying for top honors in the Feature length competition. The nominated films are AILEEN: LIFE AND DEATH OF A SERIAL KILLER, BEING DOROTHY, BORN INTO BROTHELS, CONTROL ROOM, THE CORPORATION, FAHRENHEIT 9/11, HIDING AND SEEKING, HOME OF THE BRAVE, JUVIES, LA VIE COMME ELLE VA (AS LIFE GOES BY), METALLICA: SOME KIND OF MONSTER, MUSIC FROM THE INSIDE OUT, THE TAKE, and WORD WARS.

Five documentaries are competing in the Short Film category. They are CHERNOBYL HEART, GOD SLEEPS IN RWANDA, THE LIFE OF KEVIN CARTER, MIGHTY TIMES VOLUME 2: THE CHILDREN’S MARCH, and PARENTS OF THE YEAR.

WGBH Boston (PBS) led the Continuing Series category with nominations for both THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE and FRONTLINE. Also nominated is this category is CNN PRESENTS from CNN, and AMERICAN MASTERS from Thirteen/WNET (PBS).

The nominees in the Limited Series category are THE BLUES, JAPAN: MEMOIRS OF A SECRET EMPIRE, THE NEW AMERICANS, and AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: NEW YORK: A DOCUMENTARY FILM THE CENTER OF THE WORLD, EPISODE EIGHT.
