2007 SUNDANCE ONLINE SHORT! Kuhne’s “Infinite Delay” attempts to not only explore the feeling of sheer helplessness under the weight of inescapable emotions, but seemingly, he seems to want to really paint the picture of a film without much of a point to it. Is it a dream? A nightmare? A delusion? A state of mind? The human sub-conscious?
I was sure this would prove to be a claustrophobic and utterly nightmarish film, but there’s nothing really emotional to it, and in its nine minute loop of a man twirling, and spinning in endless water, I was hard pressed to find something within its images. And when any sort of feelings fail to rush to the viewer even at the sight of a man bound in a pool of water, you really tend to know that Kuhne’s symbolism misses the mark. If there’s any symbolism at all, that is.
