INDIE FLICK CAUGHT IN CORPORATE PISSING MATCH

By Film Threat Staff | April 4, 2006

The buzz on Caveh Zahedi’s brutally self-honest film “I Am a Sex Addict” is so strong, Mark Cuban had to get him some for his new multi-platform release endeavor. Thus the film was picked up for DVD, PPV and theater release. But not quite. It seems IFC films also has secured Zahedi’s film for their own little multi-platform release endeavor and Comcast carries IFC. Mark Cuban is peeved at Comcast for not carrying his new HD NET channel so he’s not allowing IFC to screen Zahedi’s film in theaters. Sound confusing and childish? Well, it is.

Basically, Mark Cuban has pulled Zahedi’s screening for this weekend at Berkeley’s Landmark Theaters, at the last minute because he’s angry at Comcast. Zahedi wrote Cuban (and posted the letter on his blog) and Cuban, very nicely, responded. The rub is, we were told this new way of distribution would help filmmakers and fans in regards to access to films. However it seems to becoming more frustrating than not being able to see the film at all. Then again, it does make for interesting reading…
