Just in time for Halloween, The NYC Horror Film Festival will return to Lower Manhattan to bring the best new and classic horror films to the Big Apple. The festival runs October 18th to the 22nd at the prestigious Tribeca Cinemas (Tribeca Cinemas, 54 Varick Street) and is presented by Moodude Films, in conjunction with sponsors HorrorNet.TV; the emerging digital cable network, and Dark Castle Entertainment.

“With over fifty feature and short films in our competition series, the 2006 Festival will be our biggest to date,” said Festival Director Michael J. Hein. “Plus the festival will host a huge kick off party and offer screenings of some of the most buzzed new horror films in the world. Along with a few classic horror films in our invited programs, this year’s festival will be an event horror fans and filmmakers will not want to miss!”

Independent filmmakers come from across the United States and Europe to screen in the competition series at the country’s most respected horror film festival, where their work is shown to sellout crowds of fans and industry professionals — in many cases for the world premiere. The New York City Horror Film Festival also hosts a slew of special events each year. 2006 events include:

The 2006 NYC Horror Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award (Saturday, Oct 21. 9:00pm): The festival will honor Director / Producer / Writer Mick Garris (The Stand, The Shining, and Masters of Horror). Mick Garris is back with a vengeance with a new season of the most popular horror series of all time “Masters of Horror”. Mr. Garris will be in attendance to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award and present a special screening of
“Valerie on the Stairs” starring Christopher Lloyd and Tony Todd.

Masters Of Horror (Friday, Oct 20th, and Saturday, Oct. 21st ) The NYCHFF is extremely excited to have two world premiere episodes of the most buzzed about horror event of the year! Masters of Horror Presents Tobe Hooper’s The Damned Thing and Mick Garris’ Valerie on the Stairs. On Friday, Oct. 20th, the first episode of the second season of Showtime’s series Masters of Horror will screen at the New York City Horror Film Festival.

The Devil’s Rejects: Directors Cut (Saturday, Oct. 21 5:30pm): The festival is excited to be able to screen Rob Zombie’s masterpiece, the way he wanted you to see it. Very special guest and one of the stars of the film, Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead) will be on hand to introduce the film with Q&A following.
Kick Off Party at Don Hills (Wednesday, October 18, 7:00pm) simply put, is the horror event of the year. Last year over 300 hundred attendees partied the night away at Don Hill’s to usher in the festival. With short film screenings, live bands, and a one-hour of open bar at the world famous rock bar Don Hills (511 Greenwich St. NYC) our party is the ultimate rockin’ Halloween event. (Open to the public, only $10 cover)
Filmmakers Discussion Panel (Sunday, Oct. 24, 12:00pm): Each year we have a lively discussion panel, including audience participation, on topics such as: The State of the modern horror film, Film vs. DV, acting, the reality of independent distribution, and more. This is a must for filmmakers, film students and serious horror fans! 2006 panelists include Michael Gingold (Editor Fangoria Magazine) Bill Lustig (Director / Producer), Betsy Palmer (Legendary actress, Friday the 13th), Jeff Lieberman (Satan’s Little Helper, Squirm)
