“Hiro & Co.” takes the truly independent approach to filmmaking by being both no-budget and full of area actors and crew. The Oakland-based production, which was written and directed by filmmaker Wilson Wu, is the first Asian American project filmed in Oakland to use mostly local talent and help, and it will make its big-screen debut as the Closing Night film of the Oakland Rawstock Film Festival on [ November 11th ] .
The film is also entirely at home on the Web, and the gives a behind-the-scenes look at the story of Hiro — a salon owner with a bit of a gambling problem. Just as his debts, and the toughs who are bent on collecting, are about to overwhelm him, his bevy of beautiful salon co-workers are also in over their heads with matters of the heart.
