Mike Messier’s short film “God’s Country” seems more like a play that was filmed than an actual short film. Filled with pretentious, rhyming dialogue and shot in black and white, “God’s Country” wears its ambitions on its sleeve… and, ultimately, falls woefully short.
Chronicling a contentious therapy session between Mike Pause (Mark Carter) and Elizabeth Metzger (Irina Peligrad), the short makes very little sense and is virtually plot-less. Mike Pause refers to himself as an “earthbound wizard” and claims to have made a deal with the devil, then proceeds to rant in non sequiturs that culminate with him in bed with his therapist.
I don’t think there’s much more to say about this one.
