The Hollywood Film Festival will mark its triumphant return on October 18, 2005, to the state-of-the-art Arclight Theatres in Hollywood for a ninth annual, weeklong series of screenings, competitions, awards, and other unique festivities.
Due to last year’s tremendous success, the HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL and FILMTHREAT.COM will be celebrating GENRE CINEMA together once again. Among last year’s screenings were the features The Machinist, Dead & Breakfast and The Halfway House.
“We are honored to have Chris Gore and Film Threat joining us, so that we can recognize the great film contribution of genre filmmakers to the past, present and future of cinema by showcasing their work at the HOLLYWOOD HORROR, SCI-FI and FANTASY FESTIVAL(tm),” festival founder Carlos de Abreu said.
The Hollywood Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Festival is comprised of the HOLLYWOOD HORROR, SCI-FI and FANTASY SHOWCASE which will be featuring films from both emerging filmmakers and film masters, and special events and parties that will celebrate and honor genre filmmaking, and it will take place during the Hollywood Film Festival (October 18 to 24).
“Film festivals have always been very supportive of alternative and fringe indies. Unfortunately, genre films of the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genre often get left out of festival programs. How will we discover the next Peter Jackson if festivals do not support young filmmakers who create fantastic visions? Teaming with Carlos de Abreu and the Hollywood Film Festival will be a great way to showcase the best new work from indie genre filmmakers. I am ecstatic that Film Threat will be involved in the selection process and helping get this next generation of filmmakers much needed exposure,” said Film Threat founder, Chris Gore.
Last year’s festival was a smashing success, attracting over 25,000 moviegoers and receiving extensive coverage in all the major local and national publications, including “USA Today,” “The New York Times,” “Los Angeles Times,” “People,” “The Hollywood Reporter,” “Daily Variety,” “Screen International,” “US Weekly” and “Newsweek,” in addition to national broadcasts of “Access Hollywood,” “Entertainment Tonight,” E! Entertainment, “Extra,” ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and FOX among others.
The Hollywood Film Festival kicks off October 18 for a seven-day series of screenings and special presentations with Q/A sessions at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. On October 24, the festival culminates with the prestigious Hollywood Awards, which honor both Hollywood and international talent.
