“GENUINE NERD” PREMIERES IN OHIO

By Film Threat Staff | March 24, 2004

Wayne Alan Harold’s documentary on on cult star Toby Radloff, “Genuine Nerd,” will screen at Frightvision in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday, April 2 as part of Tempe Entertainment’s Friday Movie Night.
“Genuine Nerd” documents the life and times of Cleveland’s own Toby Radloff, the self-described “Genuine Nerd” who first received national attention when he was featured in a number of comedy segments on MTV’s Week in Rock in the late 80s and early 90s. Radloff went on to appear in the cult classics “Killer Nerd,” “Bride of Killer Nerd” and “Townies.” Toby also appeared as “himself” in “American Splendor,” which chronicled the life of Toby’s friend and co-worker, underground comics legend Harvey Pekar. “Splendor” won the Grand Jury Prize at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and won a special award at Cannes.
“I’m still a government employee full time, but I love to be in the spotlight once in a while—whether I’m the ‘Genuine Nerd’ or the ‘Killer Nerd’!” says Radloff.
