It’s a short film about a bunch of people who love nothing more than to stick a hot wiener in their mouths. Yep, it’s a documentary…of sorts…about hot dogs and the folks that gobble them down on a regular basis.
“Footlong” starts off with a couple of wiener obsessed filmmakers, who bolt a giant hot dog to the top of their van and take off on a road trip across the U.S. to reveal the history of the hot digitty.
Unfortunately, most of us learned the history of the hot dog in junior high or high school, so these guys in their van aren’t really breaking new ground here.
Also, this isn’t the most in-depth documentary I’ve ever seen. Sure, there’s a little history thrown in for good measure, but for the most part, it’s just these filmmakers hitting famous hot dog shacks across the States and talking to the people that run them and their patrons that keep them in business.
Um……………who cares?
Not to be a dick or anything, but I felt like I was watching a summer vacation road trip video of someone with a serious hot dog fixation. However, there are a couple of segments that prove to be somewhat interesting and they include footage from a hot dog eating contest and a spotlight on a group of “artists” who decided to spend a year of their lives creating a 12-foot wooden hot dog. These segments alone may provide enough incentive to sit down and watch “Footlong,” but only if you have 45 minutes on your hands to just throw out the window.
