By Film Threat Staff | February 12, 2002

FirstGlance 5: Philadelphia’s first and only independent, competitive, bi-coastal film festival is proud to announce that it will run from Friday, March 22, 2002 to Sunday, March 24, 2002 at the Alley Arts Studio located at 1520 Latimer St., Center City Philadelphia. Doors open 6:00 PM on Friday and Noon on Saturday and Sunday. FirstGlance 5 invites you to spend the weekend experiencing an event of alternative and mainstream work from film and video makers from around the country and the globe.
The FirstNight reception includes food, drinks, special invited guests including Sharon Pinkenson (Executive Director, Greater Philadelphia Film Office) and Michelle Paiva (Mrs. Pennsylvania 2002) and the presentation of the 2nd Annual FirstGlance Award. The award is presented to a Philadelphian who has made a difference in Hollywood and Philadelphia. Last year’s recipient was M. Night Shamaylan. Who will it be this year? The FirstNight Reception is then followed by an evening of Philadelphia Premiere projects.
FirstGlance 5 is proud to announce that after receiving over 200 submissions, and a six-week pre-screening process, a wonderful mix of great film and video work will be presented. With new and improved jury cards, the audience decides the best projects in the festival. FirstGlance is the first festival to offer the audience the chance to vote for the festival winners.
FirstGlance is excited to include the works of Ed Asner, Martin Sheen and his brother Joe Estevez, Kevin Spacey, Carol Kane and Alexis Arquette, as well as our former mayor Ed Rendell, among the group of talented actors and directors to be screened at FirstGlance 5.
Screenings range from feature length to short animation from professionals and students from around the corner, the country and the globe. All projects are exhibited on state-of-the-art video projection systems, keeping the festival affordable for both the filmmakers and the audience. A variety of films and videos can be enjoyed for less than the cost of a regular movie ticket.
