FILM THREAT'S 2012 PARK CITY PARTY GUIDE

By Admin | January 16, 2012

Every year, a couple days before the opening night of the Sundance Film Festival, I start getting emails asking me if I know of any good parties or events happening in Park City during the 10 days of the fest. These emails increase almost hourly, and a not-so-secret communication begins between those who know of the parties and those that want to get into the parties. RSVP information is exchanged, schedules are made up and master party lists begin circulating everywhere.

And every year, I make my own list based on what events I’ve been invited to, supplemented with other party and lounge info. This year, as I began to make my list, and started getting emails asking about it, I thought, “why not just share the list online?” I mean, most invites I get are because I’m press, and I’m not getting press releases because these parties wish to remain secret or private, right? So why not put up an easy schedule so folks can see what’s happening on any given day, and do their own party planning work from there?

Now, the list below is not complete; there is always more going on than I know about at this point, and the list is always a work-in-progress. I’ll update when and where time allows, so check back as often as you’d like. Also, I’m not including the RSVP information. Why? A couple reasons:

  1. Folks who are supposed to have the RSVP info already have it, so if you’re getting party info from me, you’re not on a master invite list anyway.
  2. Even if you RSVP, and are on a master invite list, it doesn’t mean you’ll get in. I’ve seen local bouncers turn away list folks to slip in 5-6 of their closest friends. I’ve been invited, RSVP’d, confirmed twice and still been turned away at the door.
  3. If you wait for any party longer than 15-30 minutes, you’re missing out. Something is always going on somewhere, and usually it’s easier to get into than the “big” party everyone in town is looking for.
  4. If you’re really the bad-a*s party hopper I think you could be, then you’ll get in with just the info below, RSVP-be-damned!
  5. So take the below information and run with it however you choose. At worst, you’ll know what to look out for and, at best, your party schedule can be set. Good luck!

There you go. Again, I’ll edit it as more information becomes clear (particularly on the TBAs) and add anything new I may hear about. If nothing else, when you’re standing in a party line in the freezing cold, you’ll know how many other options are out there.

Oh, and Klout seems to think we’re as influential on “Drought” as we are on “Sundance.” If you dig this list, or are so inclined, maybe give some +K Sundance love. Thanks.
