Ratatouille: While I would love to see “Persepolis” take this one, I’ve got a strong hunch that it’ll be “Ratatouille” all the way.
In the category of Art Direction, the nominees are:

And Film Threat predicts…
There Will Be Blood: This is unbelievably hard to call. “The Golden Compass” is epic, “Atonement” is a period piece, “American Gangster” is gritty, “Sweeney Todd…” is typical Burton darkness but “There Will Be Blood” goes the full length of the court to really establish its world the most.
In the category of Cinematography, the nominees are:
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Atonement
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly: Another almost impossible category to call, but I’m going to go with “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly’s” visual impact over the “No Country…” / “There Will Be Blood” heavyweights.
In the category of Sound Mixing, the nominees are:

No Country for Old Men

3:10 to Yuma

Transformers: Even though this category is Sound Mixing with “3:10 to Yuma” switched out with “There Will Be Blood,” I’ve got to go with “Transformers” for getting all them transforming sounds edited in with the score, human screams and other action-packed gibberish and explosions.

3:10 to Yuma, Marco Beltrami: “There Will Be Blood’s” Johnny Greenwood deserves the win for this category, but due to some nonsense Academy fine-print, his score was ineligible. Sorry, Marco, you may win but you had the second best score of the year.

“Falling Slowly” from Once, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova: The “Enchanted” songs should cancel each other out completely, leaving it a fight between “Once” and “August Rush” and… the former is sheer brilliance and the latter is a piece of s**t.

No End in Sight: No documentary has ever been more important towards showing how we got to where we are in the Iraq War, and been more prophetic to where we’re going, then “No End in Sight.” This film needs to be seen, and if an Academy Award win helps that happen, I’m behind it 100%.
