FILM IN 140 PANEL SERIES: “BEYOND NY AND LA: CAN YOU MAKE IT ANYWHERE?”

By Mark Bell | October 21, 2010

Film Threat’s latest Film in 140 Panel on Twitter took place on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 9-10pm EST. Our topic was “Beyond NY and LA: Can You Make It Anywhere?” and focused on how successful you can really be as a filmmaker or actor if you’re not living or working in either New York City or Los Angeles. The panel transcript is below…

FOLLOW ALONG

  1. Open the Panel Room on Film Threat. The official moderator and panelist feed will be viewable there, as well as a full, unmoderated feed. Room automatically refreshes every 60 seconds.
  2. Follow the Panelist List via @Filmin140Panel. This list will be updated prior to the panel start with the panelists who will be speaking that evening. This is the cleanest way to follow only the panelists and official conversation on Twitter, and is the same official feed as found above.
  3. Search for the hashtag #filmin140 on Twitter.com. The official questions posed to, and answers given by, the panelists will be marked with this hashtag, and you will also be able to read comments by anyone else who ends their Tweets with this hashtag. This is the same as the unmoderated feed above
  4. Follow along at TweetChat or TwapperKeeper. Both of these sites will be set up to follow and archive the #filmin140 hashtag.

ASK QUESTIONS

  1. Ask your question via tweet, and end with the hashtag #filmin140q. Not all questions will get answered, but we will be actively monitoring the question hashtag, and selecting questions to officially pose to our panelists from this grouping.
  2. If you wish to follow along and monitor the questions yourself, you can search for the hashtag #filmin140q, or follow along at TweetChat or TwapperKeeper.

CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION
After the official time is up, the conversation can continue, it just will no longer be moderated or monitored. Simply continue using the #filmin140 hashtag with your tweets and talk to the panelists, or other audience members, as long as you’d like.

ARCHIVES
Each panel will be archived as a transcript on Film Threat for later reading. The archive for the last panel, “Film Festivals: Who Needs Them?” can be found here and all Film in 140 panels and related articles can be found here.

@jonhillpictures Master of the obvious here…Regardless, of where you live it’s up to you, right? #filmin140 -9:04 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@johnfrisbie RT @FilmThreat: RT @Filmin140Panel: TweetChat (http://bit.ly/abFubH) is awesome. #filmin140 -9:04 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @jonhillpictures True, but the perception has been, for years, that to make a living as a filmmaker, you have to go West #filmin140 -9:05 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@WaterholeMovie Living in LA helped in no way to get my film made, just made me closer to certain resources. #filmin140 -9:05 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler @bruckmachina has anyone told you that it would be better if you were in LA or NYC? #filmin140 -9:05 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina I’m living in the ATL, and I’d say somewhere between “Making it and not making it.” #filmin140 -9:05 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly If location is you’re plan, you lose RT @Filmin140Panel: do you have to live in NYC or LA to make it in the film industry? #filmin140 -9:05 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel It’s not so much a matter of “if,” but “when.” #filmin140 -9:05 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@philontilt I absolutely believe you can make it living anywhere. @Filmin140Panel: do you have to live in NYC or LA to make it in the film? #filmin140 -9:06 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures I do believe you have to have the relationships no matter wher you are. #filmin140 -9:06 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina I’ve got several creative friends that are doing well in LA and New York, several that are struggling, a mixed bag for sure. #filmin140 -9:06 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @bruckmachina You had a popular film in “The Signal,” though. Were you tempted to make the move? Was it suggested? #filmin140 -9:06 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly resources r huge RT @WaterholeMovie: Living in LA helped in no way to get my film made, just made me closer to certain resources. #filmin140 -9:06 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@johnfrisbie @WaterholeMovie closer to resources didn’t help ? #filmin140 -9:06 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @WaterholeMovie What resources were more readily available? Crew? Equipment? #filmin140 -9:07 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures I heard you have to move to ny or la a lot, however, I got most of my training in Atlanta. #filmin140 -9:07 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler I was thinking from an agent or talent perspective, have you been told if you were in either place it would be better? #filmin140 -9:07 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @jonhillpictures When did you make the move? #filmin140 -9:07 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@WaterholeMovie That said, it is so nice being near a large group of people that love and do the same thing I do. #filmin140 -9:08 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina It’s more about relationships. That’s an argument for doing it in your home city. Long term support that you can build upon. #filmin140 -9:08 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures There are definitely a ton of resources out her in LA…You still have to have the relationships and know how to make them work. #filmin140 -9:08 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@WaterholeMovie We shot all on location in Reno, NV and used 90% LA talent because we could find no one up there. @Filmin140Panel #filmin140 -9:09 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@philontilt I agree w/ @WaterholeMovie. More resources in LA an NY, actors crew etc. But some things are easier to do here in small town MN. #filmin140 -9:09 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@Filmin140Panel Yes, I was very close to moving to LA at one point. I might be again if the door opens just right. #filmin140 -9:09 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures Well, they (agents) definitely have an easier time setting you up with meetings at the last minute if you’re in town. #filmin140 -9:09 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly just made a film in a very remote area. getting equipment was a big issue. Closest grip rental 5 hrs away #filmin140 -9:09 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@FilmThreat We made the move away from LA this year. But this job can be done anywhere, especially if you’re off the junket scene. #filmin140 -9:09 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler @WaterholeMovie I never felt like indies stuck together in LA, no scene really. May be changing now that we are finding each othr #filmin140 -9:09 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @bruckmachina What would entice you to followthrough with the move? #filmin140 -9:10 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@johnfrisbie @lmcnelly and if you only have one house to choose from, it’s tough to negotiate #filmin140 -9:10 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel RT @shericandler: @WaterholeMovie I never felt like indies stuck together in LA, no scene really. #filmin140 -9:10 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures David is sooooo right! I could easily get a movie up-and-running with the hometown folks in the ATL as I could out here in LA. #filmin140 -9:10 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@WaterholeMovie @johnfrisbie it helped the actual production, but it did not get help the funding/green light to get made. #filmin140 -9:10 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@philontilt True. That’s why I have twitter. RT @WaterholeMovie: it’s nice being near a group of people that love and do the same thing I do. #filmin140 -9:10 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina Lately though, I’ve found that I might be more useful as a storyteller if I pull from the city I know the best. #filmin140 -9:10 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 @shericandler I’m here now. Was out getting my network on with the Georgia Entertainment Association. 🙂 #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina Okay, I’m having a hard time sending SOS signals in 140 characters here. Bear with me. I talk a lot. #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly they don’t in Pittsburgh either RT @shericandler: @WaterholeMovie I never felt like indies stuck together in LA, #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures Leigh and I moved out to LA in 2004 #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@WaterholeMovie @shericandler I def think that is changing, slowly. Meeting tons of awesome LA indie filmmakers recently. #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel What about the lack of knowledge when it comes to locations outside NYC or LA? Easier/cheaper to find locations when folks… #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler those cities are so expensive to live in, isnt it better to keep the rent low and shoot outside of there? #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel … don’t know how much money they can get out of you, or what it means to have a film crew on site. #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly it wasn’t an option at all RT @johnfrisbie: @lmcnelly and if you only have one house to choose from, it’s tough to negotiate #filmin140 -9:11 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@WaterholeMovie Twitter has been just as good! RT @philontilt: True. That’s why I have twitter. #filmin140 -9:12 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel RT @WaterholeMovie: @shericandler I def think that is changing, slowly. Meeting tons of awesome LA indie filmmakers recently. #filmin140 -9:12 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@FilmThreat RT @WaterholeMovie: Twitter has been just as good! RT @philontilt: True. Thats why I have twitter. #filmin140 -9:12 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@johnfrisbie location fees can be negotiated more easily than crew, camera, production, post, experience #filmin140 -9:12 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina Lot of freedom in Atl lately. There’s tons of crew support, pro’s working in the industry that want our lil indy stuff to work. #filmin140 -9:12 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures I find there are knowlegeable crew bases all over – you just have to ask. #filmin140 -9:12 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler and good acting talent? are they everywhere too? #filmin140 -9:13 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly I’m starting to think of the internet as my city. #filmin140 -9:14 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @bruckmachina back in the 80’s ATL was the sequel capital of the U.S, so there’s a ton of folks ready to jump back in. #filmin140 -9:14 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@Filmin140Panel That’s a benefit to a city like ATL. People are more willing to work with indy’s BC it doesn’t happen everyday. #filmin140 -9:14 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@FilmThreat RT @lmcnelly: Im starting to think of the internet as my city. #filmin140 -9:14 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly Sometimes, but you can import actors easily RT @shericandler: and good acting talent? are they everywhere too? #filmin140 -9:14 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler definitely, I network everyday RT @lmcnelly: Im starting to think of the internet as my city. #filmin140 -9:14 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 Maybe not. But I think filmmakers could develop it locally. RT @shericandler: and good acting talent? are they everywhere too? #filmin140 -9:14 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina @jonhillpictures City is SLAMMED right now. People are moving up in positions left and right. Hard to crew up. #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @jonhillpictures What keeps you in LA? #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures absolutely. you just have to have a great casting director to help you find them. david g. green’s GEORGE WASHINGTON for example. #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler @lmcnelly did you find that expensive to fly in actors for Up Country? #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@dylanschenker The internet is def. my city.. I mean, I live in NJ (soon NY) but if it not for the net, would not know any of this even existed #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @bruckmachina What keeps you out of LA? #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@johnfrisbie @jonhillpictures the 80s were 30 years ago…which only goes to my perspective of limited resources – it works, but how? curious #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@philontilt Shot a film w/ @kingisafink in MN, 8 locations all free & didn’t have to get a permit to shoot in town. Happy to have us there #filmin140 -9:15 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@TheLoneOlive RT @kingisafink: RT @FilmThreat: 25 minutes to tonight’s #filmin140 panel! Join us! Details here: http://t.co/1wzIC1b -9:16 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@FilmThreat @dylanschenker I live in NJ too. Lots of good things come from NJ… #filmin140 -9:16 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@shericandler For me, talent is about building relationships with a group of performers. Not so big on the casting call. #filmin140 -9:16 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly Not really. It was certainly worth it RT @shericandler: @lmcnelly did you find that expensive to fly in actors for Up Country? #filmin140 -9:16 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler RT @philontilt: Shot a film w/ @kingisafink in MN, 8 locations all free no permit to shoot in town. Happy to have us there #filmin140 -9:16 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @philontilt Did that sentiment last throughout, though? Seems the luster of filmmakers wears down pretty fast… #filmin140 -9:17 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @Filmin140Panel I work in film, commercials and photography and there’s a lot of all of that here in Los Angeles. #filmin140 -9:17 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler @bruckmachina do you tend to use the same ppl in your films? #filmin140 -9:17 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 Having known @bruckmachina for a while, and lots of folks who have worked with @jonhillpictures, they’ve got a great network. #filmin140 -9:18 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@Filmin140Panel I have a support network here. I’m developing my own material. We just don’t need LA at the moment. #filmin140 -9:18 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly The advantage of casting outside your city is for the price of a plane ticket, you get a vastly superior cast, which can cut csts #filmin140 -9:18 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @bruckmachina yes, but if you find yourself shooting somewhere where all your folks cannot go and the story’s there.casting. #:^) #filmin140 -9:18 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@shericandler To some degree yes. I’ve worked with most of them on shorts, and I write with players in mind. #filmin140 -9:19 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@philontilt It did last, & continues to even though we’ve been done for a month. RT @Filmin140Panel: Did that sentiment last throughout? #filmin140 -9:19 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@dylanschenker @FilmThreat I agree. NJ itself not even counting New York def has a strong supportive grassroots art communities all over #filmin140 -9:19 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler like a filmmaker with multiple rev streams! RT @jonhillpictures:I work in film, commercials & photography all of that here in LA #filmin140 -9:19 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 I’ve seen the great things ATL filmmakers have done over the last few years because they were tapped in w/the larger community. #filmin140 -9:19 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@RamonaMaramonte @shericandler We usually use all the same people for our shoots. #filmin140 -9:19 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @bruckmachina yeahhh, david wouldn’t let us in so we had to move out here…#:^) #filmin140 -9:20 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@jonhillpictures For sure on a good casting agent. #filmin140 -9:20 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler for the non LA/NYC ppl, how do actors find you, get cast in your work? #filmin140 -9:21 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @johnfrisbie the crew (and there kids who are talented crew now as well) all want to work on creative projects. #filmin140 -9:21 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler are there good casting agents not in the big cities? how have you found them? or do you rely on the big agencies? #filmin140 -9:21 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@lmcnelly Internet, almost entirely RT @shericandler: for the non LA/NYC ppl, how do actors find you, get cast in your work? #filmin140 -9:21 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel What are some practical tips to help filmmakers build local networks and relationships? #filmin140 -9:22 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@dylanschenker Aren’t there websites that let you search regionally when looking for work? Mandy? #filmin140 -9:22 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @bruckmachina david btw, is part of an amazing group of folks at pop films. #filmin140 -9:22 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler RT @Filmin140Panel: What are some practical tips to help filmmakers build local networks and relationships? #filmin140 -9:22 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@WaterholeMovie Indeed! RT @jonhillpictures: @Filmin140Panel I work in film and photography and there’s a lot of all of that here in LA. #filmin140 -9:22 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@FilmThreat @dylanschenker Is Mandy still around? Haven’t worked on crew for a while. #filmin140 -9:22 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@johnfrisbie @Filmin140Panel do ppl still use meetup? entry-level socializing for industry methods are what in ATL? #filmin140 -9:23 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @shericandler thanks sherri – it definitely keeps you busy! #filmin140 -9:23 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@philontilt I use Mandy.com & the @mnfilmtv website. RT @shericandler: for the non LA/NYC ppl, how do actors find you, get cast in your work? #filmin140 -9:23 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@dylanschenker @FilmThreat I still check it for work every so often. I mean, I’m not a filmmaker per se.. but it still is a useful resource #filmin140 -9:23 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@jonhillpictures The other guys with POP have just made two TV movies for MTV. They’re bring LA to their hometown. #filmin140 -9:24 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @bruckmachina you guys will have more folks moving back in soon from all around you – just wait! #filmin140 -9:24 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 @johnfrisbie There’s been several groups over the years. One the keys for survival has been to actually go out and shoot. #filmin140 -9:24 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@VampireMob @shericandler I think filmmakers w/out casting dirs can find talent & see actors in action at local theaters, gr8 place 2 cast! #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel When it comes to acting, is the majority of work still in LA or NYC? #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 @johnfrisbie Too many groups meet, then produce nothing, or work on one project and then they’re done. #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @dylanschenker yes, except you’re competing against hundreds of folks for the same position – can be a little discouraging. #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@johnfrisbie @atlfilm365 going out and shooting is good advice for all. #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler RT @VampireMob: I think filmmakers w/out casting dirs can find talent & see actors in action at local theaters, gr8 place 2 cast! #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@FilmThreat @VampireMob But there’s a big difference in actors perfect for theater and actors perfect for film. Doesn’t always translate. #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@dylanschenker yeah, most small towns have local theaters (live theater) don’t they? doesn’t equate talent, but good place to look, right? #filmin140 -9:25 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina Best way to build local networks is make a movie with anyone, screen it where people screen stuff, and start trading resources. #filmin140 -9:26 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @atlfilm365 I agree it was an illusion, but before the internet, I don’t think it was as easy to tell how much an illusion it was #filmin140 -9:54 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler c’mon guys, there are free social media tools now and filmmakers have a hard time using them. takes time and work thats all #filmin140 -9:54 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler @bruckmachina aww where is @jon_reiss to hear this?? #filmin140 -9:54 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@bruckmachina .@VampireMob Yes exactly! We had 300 extras for a music vid. Make it fun, give em tools and now they’re 300 motivated end users. #filmin140 -9:55 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@dylanschenker How do you define “tools” I mean you’re already on Twitter. Just being part of this hashtag convo you’ve utilized it well #filmin140 -9:55 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@SanfordLewis @deadcenter #filmin140 because virtual collaboration is NOT equivalent of f2f for many reasons -9:55 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@matthewfong @shericandler well theres the problem..maybe there should be software thats made for filmmakers and dead simple to use #filmin140 #filmin140 -9:55 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@Filmin140Panel @atlfilm365 For example, though there was a network in NH when I lived there, it wasn’t as strong as in LA, which is why I moved #filmin140 -9:55 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@dylanschenker I met most of the people I have connected with in indie film thus far just by live tweeting DIY Days in March #filmin140 -9:56 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@matthewfong Well if I can, I’d do it for free 😉 If you have ideas, I’ll try to build something for you re: social media/tech for filmmakers #filmin140 -9:56 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler @matthewfong it isn’t that. They don’t have the time to use it, relationships can’t be built on automated programs #filmin140 -9:56 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@tiffanyshlain RT @shericandler: I definitely want a database of alt screening venues and film societies actively seeking films #filmin140 -9:56 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 @bruckmachina I was at that shoot. It was really fun. Kids, old people. Costumes. Great evening. #filmin140 -9:57 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@etthompson @bruckmachina thats why social media cuts two ways. Your audience has direct contact with you (director/actor). It’s a new world #filmin140 -9:57 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @bruckmachina yes and make sure to check out http://jonreiss.com/blog/ who invented the position of PMD! #filmin140 -9:57 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@shericandler @bruckmachina FB friends aren’t the key. Email list is, to actually sell. They are more likely buyers #filmin140 -9:57 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@matthewfong @shericandler I understand that, that’s why you try and build a community that grows and promotes itself #filmin140 -9:58 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@aprildenee @VampireMob Sometimes, I scope out finale shows of acting classes. Hit or miss, but the “hits” are eager & trainable. #filmin140 -11:27 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@aprildenee @bruckmachina I agree! Casting calls are good when you’re not established yet. But once you are, just “pick your Morgan Freeman.” #filmin140 -11:28 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@aprildenee RT @bruckmachina INDY begins with DIY so it’s hard start a conversation if you’re not making something. #filmin140 -11:37 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@aprildenee @atlfilm365 Some think shorts a waste of resources toward a feature, but I agree they can build relationships & be calling cards. #filmin140 -11:44 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@atlfilm365 @aprildenee Yes, but people should think beyond shorts as calling cards. Shorts can be part of a body of work. #filmin140 -11:47 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@aprildenee @shericandler A major reason I’m moving to NYC. Far too many events I need to attend that I’m just not there for. #filmin140 -11:48 PM Oct 27th, 2010

@aprildenee @atlfilm365 Agreed! Shorts really are their own art form. In fact, a good short can be so much harder to write than a feature. #filmin140 -12:00 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@TWEAK @shericandler MN filmmaking: under the radar, doing it anyway, very creative, very collaborative, IFP, great locations. #filmin140 -12:03 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee @shericandler Also a pretty big film meetup in Charlotte – http://bit.ly/1yS9pI – 600+ members, little over a year old #filmin140 -12:05 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee RT @atlfilm365: @FilmThreat Every film community of all sizes has things going on, it’s important to expand what it means to be involved. #filmin140 -12:06 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@philontilt Yep. RT @TWEAK: @shericandler MN filmmaking: under the radar, doing it anyway, very creative, collaborative, IFP, great locations #filmin140 -12:08 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee General question for #filmin140 – What about doc film? Best to be in NYC for that, or does it lend itself even more to being anywhere? -12:09 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee Bingo! Enter… an engagement coordinator! 🙂 RT @shericandler: @matthewfong Relationships can’t be built on automated programs. #filmin140 -12:22 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee @shericandler @matthewfong PS – Can’t tell you how much I hate getting automated Twitter DM’s – bleh! #filmin140 -12:24 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @atlfilm365 absolutely and especially now. shorts are on a major comeback with more marketing opportunities than ever. #filmin140 -12:35 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@michaeldlynch I seen people do it with FaceTime for ADR RT @FilmThreat: RT @dylanschenker: Imagine directing a film over the internet, hah. #filmin140 -12:35 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@michaeldlynch Great idea RT @shericandler: I definitely want a database of alt screening venues and film societies actively seeking films #filmin140 -12:36 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @aprildenee or PDM. #filmin140 -12:39 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @aprildenee I think you should be wherever your story is and then go from there. Your network might be right under your feet. #filmin140 -12:43 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @jonhillpictures that was regarding your doc filmmaker question april. #filmin140 -12:44 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee @jonhillpictures Yes! I applied for PDM training w/ @fledglingfund & @workingfilms in NYC next month. Right up my alley! Excited! #filmin140 -12:44 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @aprildenee and get Jon Reis’ book “Think Outside The Box Office”! You’ll be ahead of the class – he copined the term, PDM. #filmin140 -12:47 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@jonhillpictures @jonhillpictures uhmm, that was “coined” the term PDM… #filmin140 -12:54 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee @jonhillpictures Thx!! And I agree re: being where the story is. My doc is in CLT & NYC, so haven’t thought much beyond that yet. #filmin140 -12:56 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@aprildenee @jonhillpictures Yes! I applied for PMD training w/ @fledglingfund & @workingfilms in NYC next month. Right up my alley! Excited! #filmin140 -1:01 AM Oct 28th, 2010

@brandoneculture @jonhillpictures thx for following, I’ve returned it re: #filmin140 movies aren’t just a passion, #documentary is a specific biz unit/w.s. -1:20 AM Oct 28th, 2010
