“DO THE RIGHT THING” FINALLY MAKES IT ONTO THE AFI TOP 100

By Michael Ferraro | June 22, 2007

Finally. How this film didn’t make it to the original list from 1998 is beyond comprehension. Especially since Dances with Wolves was on the list.

Sadly, The Sixth Sense also made the cut while Giant and Fargo got ousted.

Sixth Sense is a M. Night Shyamalan anomaly. Why the hell does it make the list?

  2. M Sorrento says:

“Six Sense” is good, but “Fargo” is one of a kind. What a bunch of crap. 🙁

  3. Rory L. Aronsky says:

And “Do the Right Thing” is also responsible for one of the great parodies on “The Critic,” during the New York in love episode where Mookie yells out to Sal, “Yo Sal, I got something for you man,” and throws the trashcan through the window. Sal comes out and says, “Aw, Mookie, you found my trashcan,” and they hug.

  4. Felix says:

And “Fargo” getting the boot? It’s probably one of the best movies ever made, for f**k sake. Take out Fellowship of the Rings and put Fargo back in.

  5. Felix says:

I tend to agree Don. That’s funny, and also further proof of AFI’s eagerness to gain ratings from these stupid lists.

  6. Felix says:

Sixth Sense is an excellent movie, but not the greatest movie of all time.

And that new list sucks. Way to show your irrelevance AFI.

  7. Michael Ferraro says:

Sadly I agree Don. They only put it in there to up the black population but I still think it deserves it.

And I love Sixth Sense… I just have a hard time understanding why it’s better than Giant.

  8. Don Lewis says:

    I just watched 6th Sense again last weekend…still a GREAT f*****g movie.

“Do the Right Thing” is awesome, but this smacks of “oopsy, not enough black filmmakers last time! Lets remove D.W. Griffith’s “Birth of a Nation,” replace it with the much more p.c. “Intolerance” and throw Spike Lee a bone.”

    Whatever works.

  9. Professor Tom says:

The world is full of wonders.
