DIMENSIONALITY

By David Finkelstein | October 20, 2008

“Dimensionality” features grainy, black and white images of trees and grass at night. A bright flashlight illuminates a female figure among the trees. Video feedback is used to create pulsing, overlapping patterns in the images.

Ryan B. Wylie shows a strong feeling here for making an effective collage of images. The figure caught in the flashlight seems surprised, like a fugitive. This very short, poetic video creates a powerful atmosphere; a feeling of unexpected beauty popping into a dark space, and the startling use of light to create space in the darkness. The pulsing, echoing electronic music by Erin Costelo enhances the mood.
