By Admin | March 30, 2006

The Ninth Annual Sonoma Valley Film Festival, a Cinema Epicuria production, has announced that Marilyn Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing & Charm School will officially open the 2006 Festival on Thursday, April 6 at 6 p.m. at the Sebastiani Theatre (followed by a 9 p.m. screening), while Starbucking (6 p.m.) and Dance with the Devil (8:30 p.m.) will open the Festival’s Ravenswood Lounge program.

Marilyn Hotchkiss Ballroom Dancing & Charm School, is about a widowed man’s life that gets turned upside down when he embarks on a journey to find a dying man’s long lost love. Randall Miller directs this ensemble cast of award winning actors such as Robert Carlyle, Marisa Tomei, Mary Steenburgen, Sean Astin, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny DeVito and John Goodman. Marilyn Hotchkiss, a tale of nostalgia and the process of grief, love lost, and love found, is a magical work not to be missed.

Dance with the Devil is a special world premier presentation directed
by controversial auteur Zalman King (9½ Weeks). The documentary
takes a fascinating backstage look at the steamy, jazzy and “very Bob
Fosse” cabaret show at Harvelle’s Nightclub in Los Angeles. The act
has been an underground sensation for the last two years, and is
negotiations now underway to become the new floor show at Las Vegas’
Luxor Hotel. The premiere screening will be the Opening Night Film
at the Ravenswood Lounge, a screening venue at the Festival which will feature a “speakeasy” theme and cabaret-style seating. Following the film’s debut, the stars of Dance with the Devil will invade the theatre to perform their show live.

Starbucking, a lighthearted documentary about one man’s quest to visit every Starbucks in the world, follows a man named Winter around the globe and films his encounters with Starbucks’ patrons and supporters of the ubiquitous coffee house. Extensive interviews with people who have known Winter over the years, shed light on this fantastically unusual individual. Starbucking is truly the ultimate road movie. The story takes place on location everywhere, including the friendly neighborhood Starbucks down the street from your house. Sit back, have a cup of joe, and watch as one man defies society’s norms in a never-ending search for the lady in green.
