DANGEROUS SEDUCTRESS (DVD)

By Christopher Curry | December 30, 2004

“Dangerous Seductress” is an Indonesian horror/erotic thriller that combines Eastern exoticism with some user-friendly Western ingredients, producing a wildly bizarre and off-kilter cinematic piece that tends to defy description. “Dangerous Seductress” follows our heroine, Susan, as she flees an incredibly abusive relationship with John and seeks solace with her older sister, Linda, in Jakarta. Linda is a fashion model and soon leaves sis alone as she heads for a photo shoot in Bali.

With the big sister away, Susan starts to play, and without the slightest bit of prodding she begins reading sacred incantations from a book dealing in the occult. The repeated verses have unlocked the door to another dimension and an ancient, evil queen forms in a full-length mirror and encourages Susan to do her bidding. The queen wants blood – and what’s in it for Susan? “Beauty, strength and glamour.”

Susan takes the challenge with glee and hits the town in search of willing young males. (Males that are no doubt stand-in’s for her ex-boyfriend John). With little haste she finds her quarry and one by one she murders them in a myriad of grisly fashions. Once the earmarks are dead, Susan sucks their blood, returns to her sister’s home and projectile vomits the plasma directly into the mirror where the evil queen resides. Very odd stuff, this is. More oddities include; a walking finger, glowing orbs over the girls’ nipples, some dismemberment and the obligatory disembodied head that floats about.

As intriguing as all of that might sound, please know that the film begins to peter out around the halfway mark and spends entirely too much time on Linda’s photo shoots and Susan and friends dancing poorly to miserable cut rate techno. Furthermore, the narrative is so disorderly and chaotic that it is virtually impossible to follow. Characters and situations are established and then ignored for 15 minutes or more and then “presto” they’re back – and then they are gone again. It’s all very disorienting Still, while it does fall short in some departments, it manages to serve up enough Eastern wackiness to satiate lovers of this kind of cinema.

This Mondo Macabro release has some fine extras that include an interview with the director and the Special FX make up man, as well as a trailer reel.
