In a city of “who’s in your film?’, DanceswithFilms, the film festival known for discovering talent that hasn’t gotten a three picture deal yet, announces its 2005 slate for screening May 6-12, 2005 in Santa Monica.
Alumni from the fest include Dan Harris of “X2”, “Superman Returns”, “Logan’s Run” (2001, “The Unbreakable Likeness of Lincoln”, World Premiere), Kathryn Morris of “Cold Case” (2000, “Screenplay”, World Premiere) and as recently as last year ~ Will Scheffer & Mark Olsen (2004, “Easter”, Best of Jury) creators of and currently in production on HBO’s latest project, “Big Love” starring Bill Paxton premiering in September.
This year’s fest rounds out at 75% World and West Coast Premieres with almost everything showing in Los Angeles for the first time.
“Against all odds, DancesWithFilms continues to grow in reputation and stature, as we hold to our credo, of ‘no politics, no stars, no sh*t,” says CoFounder, Michael Trent. “Although as our alumni continue on in the industry, they are allowed to bring back their latest projects even if a celebrity is in it.” Such as the documentary, “The Distance” by Ash Adams is doing. An intimate look into the lives of former World Class boxers, it includes interviews with Michael Madsen, Ed O’Neill, Bobbie Chacon, and Academy Award Winner Louis Gossett Jr. among others.
