The DALLAS Film Society has announced they will honor screen legend, Robert Duvall at their inaugural fall fundraising event The Art of Film on November 19, 2010, at the Hall of State, Fair Park.

Oscar-winner Duvall will be presented with the DALLAS Star Award during an evening that will celebrate the achievements of his career. The following day, the DALLAS Film Society will screen a retrospective of three of Duvall’s most famous films. The Art of Film, sponsored by the Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation, is a rare opportunity for 400 film lovers to gather at an elegant dinner and be a part of an intimate conversation with Duvall and renowned film critic, Elvis Mitchell.

“With an illustrious career spanning 50 years, Robert Duvall is one of Hollywood’s elite and we are thrilled that we will have the opportunity to honor him at The Art of Film,” said Tanya Foster, President and CEO of the DALLAS Film Society. “Dallas is a city that embraces the arts and reveres great actors. This is a historic event for the DALLAS Film Society as we give Dallas the chance to pay tribute to a true movie star, outside of the Film Festival mold.”

The DALLAS Film Society honors individuals who have made important contributions to modern cinema and the advancement of the art of film. Duvall joins a list of luminaries who have received the stunning Steuben Crystal DALLAS Star Award, courtesy of Neiman Marcus. Previous recipients have included, amongst others, Frank Darabont, Lauren Bacall, Sydney Pollack, Charlize Theron, John Lee Hancock, Kathryn Bigelow, Francis Ford Coppola, Amber Heard, Marvin Hamlisch and Robert Towne.

Five-time Academy Award nominee, actor-writer-director Duvall has a body of work that few can equal. His performances in To Kill A Mockingbird, Tomorrow, Godfather I and II, Network, Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, Lonesome Dove, The Apostle and his Academy Award-winning role in Tender Mercies are ranked as some of the finest acting ever to be put on film.

The Art of Film will help raise funds to support the DALLAS Film Society’s year-round education and community outreach programs.

“We hold this inaugural event very close to our hearts as film is an art form that deserves to be cherished by all ages,” said Lynn and Allan McBee, 2010 Co-Chairmen of The Art of Film. “The Film Society’s educational programs are one of the vital components of their mission to educate the next generation of filmmakers. Through The Art of Film, we can help raise money and awareness to support this most worthwhile goal. We expect The Art of Film to become one of the most sought-after events on the fall social calendar.”
