"COFFEE DATE" AT OUTFEST

By Admin | July 6, 2006

After premiering at NewFest on June 9th, “Coffee Date” will be screening twice at this year’s Outfest, first on July 10th at the DGA, and then again at the Showcase Theatre on July 16th.

Gay faves Wilson Cruz (“My So-Called Life,” “Rent”), Deborah Gibson (“Beauty & The Beast,” “Cabaret”) and Oscar-nominated Sally Kirkland (“Anna,” “Bruce Almighty”) star in the indie romantic comedy. They are joined by Jonathan Silverman (“Weekend at Bernie’s I and II,” “The Single Guy”), Elaine Hendrix (“Parent Trap,” “Joan of Arcadia”), and popular gay actor/comic Jason Stuart (“A Day Without A Mexican,” “10 Attitudes”). Daytime TV’s Jonathan Bray (“Young and the Restless”) plays Cruz’s romantic interest.

“Coffee Date” examines the life of recently divorced, mid-30’s Todd (Bray) whose life spins out of control when an unexpected friendship with a gay man (Cruz) causes everyone in his life to start thinking that he too is gay. “Do they know something I don’t” wonders Todd? One complication leads to another as Mom (Kirkland), brother (Silverman), out and proud gay co-worker Clayton (Stuart) and sexy co-worker Melissa (Gibson) add to the comic confusion.

Hoping to help bridge the gap between the gay, bi, and straight worlds, writer/director Stewart Wade (“Stag Party”) crafted “Coffee Date” as a lighthearted response to the pressures everyone feels during this time of increased polarization and political divisions.

Mr. Wade has been chosen as one of the Outfest 2006 FIVE IN FOCUS. Each year Outfest chooses five first-time feature film directors to spotlight as “the next wave of hot new talent.” Mr. Wade has also been chosen as one of the panelists for Outfest’s “Video Funhouse,” scheduled for July 15th. Also on the panel will be John August, Angela Robinson, Jane Anderson, and Thomas Bezucha.

“Coffee Date” was produced by Cindy Peters with co-producer/writer/director Wade and associate producers Kirkland and Hendrix. Executive Producer: Antonio Brown.
