Journey of Man is a showcase for the performances of the famous Cirque de Soleil troupe of dancers, clowns and acrobats. Beautiful historic sites from around the world including Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate serve as the backdrop for each amazing display of talent. The best of which is a pair of performers painted like statues who move into impossible positions and then remain completely still. It’s like watching a bizarre porn in slow motion.
The story is about as complex as any episode of Sid and Marty Krofft’s H.R. Pufnstuff, y’know, “kid gets lost in fantasy world and can’t get home”. But seeing these death-defying acrobatics in 3-D is dizzying.
Journey of Man is spectacular and a cheap way to see Cirque de Soleil and while the 3-D effects are cool, I believe there are plenty of better films playing at IMAX theaters. NOTE: This movie can only be seen at IMAX theaters wearing these really cumbersome 3-D glasses that feel like welder’s glasses and leave a big red mark on your head after the movie.
