Wednesday, February 25 marked the opening night for Cinequest 19 in San Jose, California where they invite you to “transform your mind, body and soul.” Lasting 12 days the festival will present a huge slate of special presentations, indie films and varied conferences focused on the business of making independent film.
Opening night kicked off with Ellie Kanner’s family comedy-drama “Wake” which takes the idea of dating and moves it into the funeral home. Yes, the funeral home. It stars Bijou Phillips, Ian Somerhalder, Jane Seymour, Danny Masterson and Marguerite Moreau.
Several “Maverick Spirit Events” are also set to take place in which film icons such as, Lou Gossett Jr. (March 3), Kevin Pollack (March 4) and Diablo Cody (March 6) will be celebrated. But that’s not all!
The festival boasts over 100 shorts and features as well as panels on such topics as collaborations, TV & The Internet, Art & Commerce as well as an entire day dedicated to “The Writer” which takes place Friday, March 6.
Frankly there’s just too much to list but Film Threat writers Scott Knopf and Whitney Borup will be in attendance bringing you reviews and blogs and managing editor Don R. Lewis’ short documentary film “Drag King” will be showing as part of the doc shorts program. There’s even rumors of Chris Gore making an appearance but that rumor is as yet, unfounded.
