CINEQUEST 2004 ANNOUNCES PROGRAM

By Film Threat Staff | February 9, 2004

With a little less than a month to go before showtime, Cinequest has revealed their program of films to be unleashed upon San Jose, March 3-14. Included in the line up:
Arakimentari ^ Nobuyoshi Araki’s work, always focusing on his obsession with the female form, has been both attacked as obscene and hailed as visionary with the same intensity. Following in the steps of Crumb, Arakimentari invites viewers to follow the boisterous, eccentric Araki through the glitz of Tokyo and into his own photography sessions to make up their own minds.
Graveyard Alive: A Zombie Nurse in Love ^ Ripe with allusions to classic horror films, director Elza Kephart’s Graveyard Alive brilliantly evokes German Expressionist horror movies with glorious black and white cinematography and a sparse but compelling soundtrack. It’s an exceptional addition to the zombie tradition that’s unique and fun.
Imelda ^ Widow of the late Ferdinand Marcos, exiled president of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos rose to power as a diplomat and Governor of Manila during the twenty-year reign of her husband. Because of the Cold War and the strategic military location of the country, the Marcoses garnered profit from close ties with the United States, maintained a stranglehold on the government, and thrust the Philippines into the world’s spotlight. By the time of their forced exile in 1986, her beauty, cosmopolitan bearing and ruthlessness, arguably, had transformed Imelda into the richest and most powerful woman in the world.
Security ^ Pat and Bill take their jobs as rent-a-cops at the chocolate factory very, very seriously. Perhaps a little too seriously at times. So, when the “prototypical chocolate” is stolen during the graveyard shift (Pat and Bill’s shift), nothing can stop them from solving this most heinous of crimes.
Shorts Yin Yang and Walkentalk will also screen.
