Presenting award-winning films from North and South America, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Asia, the 2003 Short Shorts Film Festival will take place in Los Angeles at the Egyptian Theater April 29th-May 1st. Among the films to be screened is Japanese animator Koji Yamamura’s Academy Award nominated “Mt. Head.”
Included in this year’s Board of Directors are directors Martin Scorsese and Roger Donaldson, director/actor Edward Burns, actor Colin Ferrell, Lions Gate CEO Tom Ortenberg, as well as Toni Howard, Naomi Foner, Tetsuya Bessho, Keiko Takahashi, Michael Wolf, and Masaharu Kohno, the Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles.
The Short Shorts Film Festival originated in Japan, where, with the support of George Lucas, the festival was founded five years ago to introduce upcoming filmmaking talents, to expose audiences to a format rarely seen in Japan, and to bridge cultures through visual media. Short Shorts has since grown from a two-city tour of Japan to an international tour with screenings in six cities in Japan, in Singapore, and in Los Angeles. In its brief history the festival has already reached audiences of 75,000 and awarded over $12,000 cash prizes to winning filmmakers.
