Print The Legend, the new documentary on the 3D printer phenomenon and the vast implications of the invention from weaponry to copyright, won a special recognition for storytelling and editing at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival. We look at clips and the trailer for the film and talk with makers Luis Lopez and Clay Tweel (who previously made The King of Kong, and Make Believe) direct from the 2014 SXSW film festival on the world’s only all doc talk show, BYOD.
Watch new episodes of BYOD live each week on Tuesdays at noon on TheLip.TV, or tune in for the archived replay starting here on the following Thursday.
BYOD is hosted by Ondi Timoner, director of “DIG!,” “JOIN US” and “WE LIVE IN PUBLIC,” and has the rare distinction of winning the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance twice. Each week the show explores a different documentary filmmaker or aspect of filmmaking, with special guests and a live Q&A– diving deep into creative process and the business realities of producing and distributing films. Ondi shares her insider views, opinions, and personal stories, welcoming audience participation. BYOD aims to entertain, inform, and elevate documentaries in general by bringing attention to films and film makers that deserve exposure.
PRINT THE LEGEND: 3D printing is changing the world – from printing guns and human organs to dismantling the world’s industrial infrastructure by enabling home manufacturing. It’s “the next Industrial Revolution.”
For the first time in history, the stories of the human beings building an industry have been filmed. The result: “Print the Legend,” which follows the people racing to bring 3D printing to your desktop and into your life. For the winners, there are fortunes – and history – to be made. “Print the Legend” is both the definitive 3D Printing Documentary – capturing a tech in the midst of its “Macintosh Moment” – and a compelling tale about what it takes to live the American Dream.
Among the credits Luis Lopez and Clay Tweel, they share THE KING OF KONG (Clay & Luis: editor, shooter, and associate producer) and MAKE BELIEVE (Clay: director and editor, Luis: editor and co-producer), which won the grand jury prize at the LA Film Fest in 2010.
