BID ON A “YA-YA” HAT

By Film Threat Staff | May 10, 2002

Bidding on celebrity-made hats sounds a little weird at first, but it’s all for a good cause. The upcoming film Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood has inspired a charity auction for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. Prominent Hollywood women, including the stars of the movie, have been asked to create hats fashioned after the Ya-Ya garb featured in the film. Each creation includes “bits of personal mementos and distinctive items woven into their design, each hat will symbolize the events, interests and accomplishments that have helped make these special women what they are today.”
Ellen Burstyn, Fionnula Flanagan, Ashley Judd and Shirley Knight, plus director Callie Khouri and producer Bonnie Bruckheimer, are all participating. And no, Ellen will not sew her Oscar for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore onto her charity creation.
