Kevin Epps, the filmmaker behind “Straight Outta Hunter Point”, recently won the “Best Documentary Award” at the Pan African Film Fest in Denver. He was very honored to be chosen out of a diverse field of several amazing documentary films.
Tempering this occasion however, upon his return to San Francisco he discovered that a beloved community figure had passed away. Epps & other Bayview community members are now attempting to honor the memory and continue the work of the late Julia Middleton, affectionately known as “Aunt Bea” by all whose lives were touched by her care and concern.
A Special Hip Hop Film Fest Showcase is being organized that will span the Bay as a two-part event. The first part of the festival will be held on June 23-25 at the Roxie Cinema located at 3117 16th St. in San Francisco, CA. The second part of the festival will be held on July 14-17 at the Black Box Theatre located at 1928 Telegraph Ave. in Oakland, CA.
The festival will screen such films as “Soundz of Spirit,” “Straight Outta Hunters Point” and “Breath Control.”
This fund-raiser will benefit the Hunters Point Youth Park Foundation to help continue the legacy that Aunt Bea left behind.
